Warmth for Winter Woes

Winter brings along the desire and the energy for most women in Darjeeling to knit with a gusto, churning out exquisite pieces everytime. Each design is so beautiful that one feels they are made with much love and devotion for their family and friends. It is a common sight to see grandmothers happily clicking away at the needles in the rare afternoon winter sun, sitting on a Mooda lovingly knitting sweaters, scarves, socks...you name it...for their grandchildren. One would say the same for the mothers, sisters, girlfriends and wives of Darjeeling!!

Please find our knit collection for this winter. Winter, like I have just attempted to explain will have a lot of those woolies..:)

Darjeeling Souvenirs

This collection only houses crafts that have a Darjeeling flavor to them, catering not just to tourists but also other Darjeelingeys who would like to take a piece of the Hills with them wherever they may reside. The heart is where Darj is...Corny i know..! Watch this space for more products. They're all for sale. We're working, we're working...

The Darjeeling Sky rectangular pillow is an abstract impression, hand-embroidered piece reminiscent of the early morning glow that illuminates our skies ever so often. Oh bliss…

The Darjeeling Blues rectangular pillow is specially made for the quintessential music lover, an attribute of most people that is so entwined to our Hills. It's design is embroidered with wool and patched with faux leather.
Both pieces are made of thick denim-like fabric (can't get the name for it) and hand embroidered.

The Big Chief bookmark

We made the Big Chief Bookmark for Big Chief's birthday (my Dad). He heads the family (Mom would beg to differ!) and he loves to read; the rest can be figured. Three daisy petals are stuck on the bookmark, which were from an Oct 30 08 bloom.
All the materials are recycled. Big Chief's headgear has been created with dried, glazed and twirled corn leaves.

Quilted Runner

This quilted patchwork runner was made with Mom in mind since she wanted something thick and protective over her new dining table. It took me quite a while to finish this project between other projects and pure laziness but eventually, I got it done. She liked it too though her praises were interposed with a couple of ho's and hum's.

Applique Kitchen Towels

We made a couple of these kitchen towels just to put some scrap fabric to use. They didn't turn out too bad.
